D417 FAQ’s

1Who is the D417 for?

This qualification is designed to develop an in-depth understanding about how asbestos in non-domestic premises must be managed. The development of this knowledge will also include the ability to investigate asbestos incidents plus review and audit the required and detailed overarching asbestos management plan and policy for the organisation.
This qualification is suitable for anyone who is:
•    A duty holder or appointed person.
•    A provider of duty holder/appointed person services (e.g., those responsible for maintaining or repair works of a building premises). 
•    Responsible for writing, developing or auditing asbestos management plans

2What type of Course is the D417?

The D417 is a class-room based course made up of 14 modules which are formed into 5 groups. The course includes all you will need to know to pass and receive your qualification. Each module contains instructional presentations and quizzes to test your understanding of the training and information provided. 

3What is the D417 Course content?

A. The course is made up of the following 5 groups:
A - Legislation & Guidance Documents, Asbestos Containing Materials
B - Asbestos Licensing, Selection and Management of Asbestos Contractors
C - Managing Asbestos Within Non-Domestic Premises, Duties & Responsibilities, Training
D - Assessment for the Presence of Asbestos, Managing & Assessing the Risks from Asbestos, The Asbestos Register
E - The Asbestos Management Plan, Action Plans, Reviewing the Plan, Asbestos Incidents

4How long does the D417 Course take?

The course involves 4 days of teaching with a 5th day for the final assessment. 

5What is the assessment process for the D417?

The assessment comprises of 2 exam papers to cover all areas of the course. The marks applicable for each question are shown. This should act as a guide to the depth of answer required. It isn’t necessary to write large amounts of text and in some instances one or two sentences will be sufficient. It is not envisaged that the answer to any question should require more than one standard page of text. Direction may be given in some instances to relevant HSE Guidance which can be reviewed to assist with answers provided. This is to reflect the approach which would be expected in a real-life situation when researching the most appropriate way to deal with matters. This is an open book assessment.

6How long does it take to receive my Qualification Certificate?

Once the completed exams have been assessed and found to be satisfactory you should receive your certificate within a week. All certificates are electronic and will be sent by email using the details provided when registering for the course.

7What Assistance and Resources are available for the D417?

The course is self-contained and copies of all HSE Guidance and other applicable reading material are provided. You can access these course files/documents which form the resources library by going to files on the menu bar at the top of the page. 8How much does the D417 cost?

Course cost is £985 plus an examination fee of £250 (Costs are exc. VAT)
